Multi-factor Authentication (MFA)

  • Updated

Note: Multi-factor login with an authenticator app is not available for all organizations. If you don’t see this option in your account, your employer may not require its use.

Authenticator apps add an extra layer of protection by requiring a second verification step beyond your password. This enhances the safety of your account and helps ensure that only you can access it.

When logging in to Candidly, you’ll enter your email and password first, and then provide a one-time code generated by your authenticator app.

This guide walks you through setup using Google Authenticator (available on both Android and iPhone), though you can use other authenticator apps if you prefer. The steps may look slightly different depending on which app you choose, but the outcome will be the same: generating a one-time passcode to access Candidly.

Setting Up Your Authenticator App

1. Download Google Authenticator

  • On your phone, download Google Authenticator from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android).

  • Keep the app installed — you’ll need it each time you log in to Candidly.

2. Open the App and Add a Code

  • Launch Google Authenticator and tap Get Started.

  • If you don’t already have codes set up, you’ll see the option to Add a code.

3. Choose How to Add Candidly

You’ll see two options for generating your Candidly code:

  1. Scan a QR code – Use your phone’s camera to scan the unique QR code shown in Candidly during signup.

  2. Enter a setup key – Manually enter the code provided by Candidly.

🔒 Each QR code or setup key is unique to your account and only valid during your signup process.

4. Scan the QR Code (Recommended)

  • Select Scan a QR code in Google Authenticator.

  • Point your phone’s camera at the QR code shown in your Candidly signup screen.

  • Once scanned, a code labeled “Candidly” will appear in your app.

5. Enter Your One-Time Code

  • The code in Google Authenticator refreshes every 30 seconds.

  • Copy the current code and enter it into the Candidly screen when prompted.

  • Continue to the next page to complete setup.

6. Save Your Backup Code

After setup, Candidly will provide you with a unique backup code.

  • Store this code in a safe place.

  • You’ll need it if you lose access to your authenticator app in the future.

Logging Back into Candidly

When returning to Candidly after setup:

  1. Enter your email and password as usual.

  2. When prompted, open your authenticator app.

  3. Find the code next to “Candidly” and enter it into the login screen.

⚠️ The code refreshes every 30 seconds — make sure to enter the most recent one.

If entered correctly, you’ll be logged in to Candidly.

Key Reminders

  • Always keep your authenticator app installed — you’ll need it each time you log in.

  • The code changes every 30 seconds; this is normal and part of the security.

  • Save your backup code somewhere secure in case you lose access to your phone or authenticator app.

That’s it! You’re all set up to use an authenticator app with Candidly.
